I know how this sounds. "Robot-cooked food" usually means sad vending machine energy. But iWok, which opened January 30th in the Medical Center, is genuinely interesting.

You customize your bowl — protein, vegetables, sauce, spice level — and a robotic wok system cooks it to order. Every single time. No variation, no bad days, no line cook who's checked out at 2 PM on a Wednesday. Just consistent, fast, well-seasoned stir fry.

Is it replacing your favorite family-owned Chinese restaurant? Absolutely not. But for a quick, customizable lunch in the Med Center — where your options have historically been Subway or despair — it's a real addition. Katy, Asiatown, and NASA Parkway locations are coming, which tells you the concept is working.

Lankford's Hits The Woodlands

Lankford's Grocery & Market has been a Houston institution since 1938. The original on Dunlavy has a line that wraps the building on weekends and a burger that's earned its reputation one messy bite at a time.

Now it's in The Woodlands. Opened January 31st with a 12-tap self-serve beer wall (smart), a milkshake bar (dangerous), and dog-friendly menu items with proceeds going to Montgomery County Animal Shelter (wholesome). This is one of those rare expansions where a beloved Houston spot moves to the suburbs and actually brings its soul with it.

The Woodlands needed this. Not another chain. Not another polished-to-death concept. A proper Houston burger joint with grease on the griddle and character on the walls.

Long Weekend in the Heights is doing ranch-inspired dining — think cowboy tradition meets Houston's modern food scene. It's atmospheric in a way that feels earned rather than staged.

Ramen Alley is Seoul-inspired comfort food with neon vibes. If you're tired of the same three ramen spots in your rotation, this one's worth the trip.

Maggie's Coffee opened February 2nd in the Energy Corridor with Independence Coffee Co. beans and Kraftsmen Baking pastries. The Energy Corridor is a food desert for anything that isn't a chain, so this matters more than it sounds.
